Eastern Guilford practice is still going on

I was down at Eastern Guilford for football practice tonight and I got there at 6pm and they were getting started up, at around 6:15 and I left at 8:15 and Coach Scott Loosemore said the Wildcats would go with practice up to about 8:50pm….Pretty good workout and the ‘Cats are going with just the one a-day practice sessions in pre-season and that seems to be the best fit for them….

The Wildcats are working with three different quarterbacks in senior Hayden Holleman, sophomore Heath Justice and the very promising freshman, Jarius Morehead……Jarius is the brother of former EG Wildcat Josh Morehead, and Jarius will play on the varsity somewhere, if not at QB then at WR and DB…..As a freshman, he stands 6’1 and weighs 170……

Jarius and a few more freshmen working with the varsity, had a very good season last year at Eastern Middle School and they are part of very solid freshman class at Eastern High….

The overall Varsity numbers are down somewhat this year with right at 65 players out for the Varsity and JV combined…..Coach Loosemore did say he has had a solid core of 30 players working out at Eastern Guilford all summer long, going hard for five days a week, with their summer conditioning and weight training….

A newcomer to football at Eastern Guilford this year is Quan Moss…Quan started in the secondary at Dudley last season, but his family moved to Eastern’s district and Quan started for the EG Wildcat basketball team last year along with fellow Wildcatter Tre Radcliffe…..

Kicker/Punter Tyler Hunt is back for his senior season and Tyler will be one of, if the the top punter in Guilford County, this season…..Tyler trains on Sunday afternoons in Thomasville with the kicking legend Don Osborne, along side of Brad Davis from Ragsdale, Will Johnson of High Point Central and Ryan Jackson of Page…..Osborne has taught these young men quite a bit over the years…..Tyler Hunt will also line up at a wide receiver position for Eastern this year and EG has a tight end/runningback/LB/DB named Antonio that when he gets ready, Antonio ought to be able to fly…..Very good runner Antonio…..

Last year’s nationwide Rudy Award nominee from Eastern Guilford, Andrew Banner, is back and this year Andrew is bound and determined to excel and he is more serious and he is working much harder than he did in 2010…..Banner is hoping to have a banner season in 2011 at his receivers spot….The coach’s son Joey Loosemore will anchor the offensive line, along with Tyler Wolfe and both young men were Honorable Mention All-Conference performers last season…….

Coach Scott Loosmore’s saying for today was, “There’s a whole of Standing and Watching going on”……..

From Coach Loosemore’s perspective, too much standing and watching and it is time to get moving and time to get to work……That’s the thing about any level of competitive football, it takes a lot of time and you have to do it over and over and over again…..The same play, or technique, the right way, until you can do it right every single time…….
