IAN POULTER, LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN, ANTHONY KIM JOIN WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
GREENSBORO, N.C. – World No. 17 Ian Poulter, 2010 British Open winner Louis
Oosthuizen and Anthony Kim have joined the Wyndham Championship field, it
was announced today. The 72nd annual Wyndham Championship presented by BB&T
is set for Aug, 15-21 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
These players join a field that already includes world No. 16 Paul Casey,
world No. 18 Kyung-Tae Kim, world No. 19 David Toms, 2009 U.S. Open champion
Lucas Glover, Webb Simpson, Bill Haas, 2008 champion Carl Pettersson,
three-time major winner Vijay Singh, two-time major winner Angel Cabrera,
2007 champion Brandt Snedeker, 1997 British Open winner Justin Leonard,
Charles Howell III, two-time Wyndham winners Rocco Mediate and Davis Love
III, Boo Weekley, Stuart Appleby, John Daly, Kyle Stanley, Tommy “two
gloves” Gainey and defending champion Arjun Atwal.
Poulter is currently No. 17 in the Official World Golf Rankings giving the
Wyndham field the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th-ranked players in the world.
Poulter has made 10 cuts in 12 PGA TOUR events this season. He won the 2010
World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play Championship becoming the
first player from England to win a World Golf Championship event. He played
on the European Ryder Cup team in 2004, ’08 and ’10. A winner of 12
international tournaments, he will be making his first appearance in the
Wyndham Championship.
Oosthuizen won the 2010 British Open Championship in addition to six other
international victories. He finished tied for ninth at the U.S Open for his
best finish on the PGA TOUR this year. The golfer from South Africa is 36th
in the Official World Golf Rankings but just 146th in the FedExCup point
standings having made eight cuts in his 12 PGA TOUR starts this season.
Oosthuizen has never played the Wyndham Championship.
Kim is 89th in the current FedExCup point standings and 61st in the Official
World Golf Rankings. He has two top-10 finishes in 13 made cuts this
season. His finished tied for fifth in the British Open which is his best
finish of the year. Last year at the Wyndham, the three-time PGA TOUR
winner missed the cut in his first start following thumb surgery; it is his
only previous appearance here. Kim serves as co-chair of the Young
Ambassadors Council of The First Tee.
