DEMOREST, Ga. – Ronnie Castellanos and Freddy Gomez scored first-half goals in Guilford College’s 2-0 soccer win at Piedmont College Sunday. Peter Truitt made six saves for his first shutout of the season, which gave the Quakers (1-1) a split in its two games at the Piedmont Fall Invitational.
Castellanos tallied an unassisted goal in the 21st minute to open the scoring and Gomez converted a penalty kick three minutes before halftime for his second goal in as many games.
The Lions’ (0-2) bench received a red card 20 seconds after Guilford’s second goal, which rendered the hosts a man down for the remainder of the contest.
Guilford opens its home schedule Wednesday night (9/7) at 7:00 p.m. versus North Carolina Wesleyan College.
