JAMESTOWN — A potentially broken index finger on his non-throwing hand didn’t stop Page quarterback James Summers from leading the top-ranked Pirates(N&R/Greensborosports.com polls) to a 35-14 victory against No. 3 Ragsdale on Friday night.

The N.C. State recruit turned the ball over four times, but he led Page to 28 unanswered points to defeat the Tigers for the first time in his high school career.

Ragsdale defeated Page each of the last four seasons.

“That’s the main thing, working through adversity,” Summers said. “Not for just me, for my teammates. They helped me a lot tonight. I had a lot of cramps. I think I broke my finger tonight, that’s why I fumbled. A lot of things happened tonight, but they kept my back.”

Brian Spain caught a 28-yard touchdown from Summers on third-and-long, and Drew Rogers ran in the two-point conversion to hand Page its first lead, 21-14, with 4 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

“We didn’t give up, we stayed in there, we kept fighting,” Page coach Kevin Gillespie said. “It’s a great win for the program.”

Summers completed 8 of 20 pass attempts for 185 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 49 yards on 14 carries and fumbled twice.
