One of the state’s top girls basketball players chooses Vanderbilt

from www.wralsportsfan.com:

Green Hope forward Kristen Gaffney announced Wednesday that she will play college basketball at Vanderbilt University.

Gaffney made her commitment during a press conference at Green Hope High School on Wednesday afternoon.

“I chose Vanderbilt because I know Coach Baucom and her staff will push me to the absolute max so I can become the best player I can be,” Gaffney said. “The academic excellence, support, and competition along with the small school family touch made me feel extremely comfortable at Vanderbilt.”

It was a long process for Gaffney. Previously, she committed to Virginia Tech, but she rescinded her commitment after a coaching change after last season.

Since opening the recruiting process back up, Gaffney has visited a number of different schools and participated in several showcase events.
