Chapel Hill, N.C. — Giovani Bernard has made a quick impact in just five games for the Tar Heels. The redshirt freshman is the leading rusher this season for University of North Carolina after missing all of last year with a torn ACL.
Bernard, who gained 146 yards at East Carolina last week, said he cultivates a low-to-the-ground running style. “I think a lot of the time it’s them not being able to see me,” said the tailback, whom UNC lists at 5’10”.
He is on pace to be the first to gain 1,000 yards in a season in Tar Heel blue since 1997.
Remember Mike Voigt, James “Boom Boom” Betterson, “Famous Amos” Lawrence, Kelvin Bryant, Leon Johnson, Curtis Johnson(Smith High School), Natrone Means and Jonathan Linton……Here is the next 1,000 yard rusher at UNC, if he keeps up the numbers and maintains the pace…….
