Greensboro College Men’s Soccer Ties Piedmont in Non-Conference Play

The Pride tied Piedmont 2-2 at Pride Field in an exciting back-and-forth match that included 51 shots. Greensboro remains unbeaten at home and will hope it can continue the solid play in front of the home crowd as three of its last five games are at home.

Greensboro came out strong in the first half and had several opportunities to take the lead, but were unable to find the back of the net due to some good defensive work by the Lions. Momentum swung in Piedmont’s favor late in the half and they found the breakthrough with less than 10 minutes remaining before half on a corner kick.

Despite trailing at the half, The Pride came out strong again to start the second half and evened the scored three minutes after the break. Senior Luigi Dipourto crossed a ball low into the box toward fellow senior Joe Peluso who was able to get a touch on the ball and tally his fifth goal of the season.

Building on the momentum from the first goal, Greensboro took its first lead five minutes later as Peluso played the provider this time, slotting the ball across the top of the 18 for freshman Taylor Wyatt. Wyatt fired a low, hard shot that was just out of the reach of the Lion’s goalkeeper.

Piedmont would not go away, however, and after several opportunities, Nick Weatherby placed a through ball behind The Pride defense for Vincent Thomas, who took one touch and fired a rocket past sophomore goalkeeper Woody Wilder.

Both teams created scoring opportunities late in the second half and throughout overtime, but neither could find the game winner and the contest ended in a draw.

Greensboro outshot the Lions 29-22 in the game and held a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks. Wyatt led The Pride with six shots, while Peluso and fellow captain Patrick Hayes fired four. Thomas and Weatherby each posted seven shots a piece for the Lions. Piedmont keeper Brian Gaid tallied 12 saves, while Wilder recorded six.

Greensboro will be back in action on October 15th as they return to conference play against Shenandoah at Pride Field. The game is set to begin at noon.
