GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Noah Ratner (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award Monday. Ratner has received this award seven times in his career, including twice this season. He also earned the Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award, which is presented weekly by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Ratner captured his second medalist honor in as many tournaments Oct. 11 at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational in Sandestin, Fla. He shot nine-under-par 204 over 54 holes to win the 90-man event at the par-71 Raven Golf Club. Ratner shot a five-under 66 in the first round, Guilford’s third-lowest 18-hole score in school history, and his 204 shattered the previous school standard by three strokes. Through six rounds this fall, Ratner boasts a sterling 69.5 stroke average, which leads the ODAC.
Guilford won team title in the 18-team field, which featured many of the top teams in Division III. The Quakers shot 290-296-288-874 to claim their first win of the season by nine strokes. Like Ratner, Guilford led wire-to-wire.
Coach Corey Maggard’s team returns to action Oct. 24-25 at the O’Briant-Jensen Memorial at the Quakers’ home course, the Cardinal Golf and Country Club in northwest Greensboro. The Quakers have won one tournament and finished second in another this season.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
