GC’s Men’s Golf Concludes Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Invitational in Fourth

The Greensboro College men’s golf team concluded the two day Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Invitational on Tuesday with a fourth place finish among 17 teams. The Pride shot a 295 on Tuesday, two strokes better than Monday’s round of 297, but dropped from second to fourth in the standings with an overall score of 592.

Kirk Mitchell, Joshua Hudgins and Scott Novicki each tied with the top finish for Greensboro in a tie for 15th at 148. Mitchell had the biggest jump of the three, moving from a 76 to a 72 on Tuesday. Hudgins shot a 73 on Monday and finished with a 75 on Tuesday while Novicki fired an even 74 on both days.

Ben Nihart, The Pride’s top finisher at the two prior tournaments, checked in one stroke behind at 149, which placed him in a tie for 20th. Nihart improved on his Monday score by one stroke with a final round of 74.

Nick Peoples wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 28th at 152 (75-77), Brian Critzer posted a 157 (73-84) and Jeffrey Jackman shot a 163 (83-80).

Christopher Newport won the tournament with an overall team score of 585 (292-293). Huntingdon followed in second at 587 (300-287) with Methodist rounding out the top three in front of Greensboro at 588 (302-286). Joe Evans of Christopher Newport won the individual championship with a four-under-par 138 (66-72).

Next up for The Pride is the fall finale on the week of October 24 at the O’Briant/Jenson Memorial. The tournament will be held at the NC Cardinal Golf Club.
