College Men’s Soccer Final – Randolph 2, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Corey Sindle’s second goal of the game and league-leading 12th of the season broke a 1-1 tie and sent visiting Randolph College past Guilford College, 2-1, Tuesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s soccer action.

Sindle scored in the 79th minute of a tightly played contest, which ultimately ended the Quakers’ (6-9-2, 3-7 ODAC). Guilford needed a win in its regular-season finale to earn one of eight spots in the upcoming ODAC Tournament.

Sindle opened the game’s scoring in the 11th minute when he converted a long cross from Timmy Songer. The Quakers tied the game a little over five minutes later when Freddy Gomez wove through the WildCats’ (13-5, 6-4 ODAC) defense and beat Carter Smith for his team-leading 11th goal of the year, matching his career high.

Smith finished with four saves to earn the victory in goal. Guilford outshot the Wildcats, 16-8, and both teams had five corner kicks. Guilford netminder Peter Truitt, one of eight seniors on the team, made one save in his final college appearance.

The WildCats await the pairings for the upcoming ODAC Men’s Soccer Tournament, which begins Oct. 29 at the site of higher seeds.
