College Golf Results – Guilford 16th After First Round of Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE, N.C. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 299 in Monday’s first round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, hosted by Western Carolina University at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley. The lone NCAA Division III team in the 17-team field, Guilford is in 16th place.

Gardner-Webb shot two-under-par 282 in Monday’s opening round and holds a five-stroke advantage over the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Samford University is third at 290. Francis Marion University, Wofford College and Vanderbilt University all shot 291 Monday and share fourth place.

Gardner-Webb’s Kristopher Gray shot four-under 67 Monday and takes a one-shot lead over Vanderbilt’s Hunter Stewart, Elon University’s Tanner Norton and Radford University’s Michael Wade into Tuesday’s final round.

Guilford’s low scores came from junior Noah Ratner and senior Mat Hennick, who both shot three-over 74 and share 32nd place in the 93-man field. Freshmen Drew Thompson (75) and Mitch Robinette (76) also scored for the Quakers.

Tuesday’s final round is slated to start at 10:00 a.m. Today’s round started later than scheduled due to frost.
