Greensboro College Women’s Basketball Pounds Cabrini 74-48

The nationally ranked Greensboro College women’s basketball team rolled to a 74-48 victory over Cabrini on Friday night at the St. Mary’s College Invitational. Four Pride players finished in double digits scoring, led by Chevena Pickard’s 22 points. Pre-season All-American Danielle Duncan scored 19, Andrienne Terrell chipped in 14 and Bianca Richburg added a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

It took less then nine minutes into the action for Greensboro to open up a double digit lead. Aided by a 12-0 run, The Pride appeared to take control with a 20-6 advantage midway through the first frame.

Cabrini, however, responded with a run of its own, closing the gap to 22-21 with 6:55 to play in the half. A three-point basket by Pickard helped kick-off another Greensboro run as The Pride cruised into halftime with a 34-26 lead.

The momentum continued into the second half, as Greensboro scored the first seven points to extend the margin to 41-26. Cabrini hung tough, keeping the game within 15 points at 55-41 with 7:46 showing on the clock.

It was all Pride from there, as Greensboro outscored Cabrini down the stretch, 19-7, to close out the 26 point victory.

The Pride’s starting five of Pickard, Duncan, Terrell, Richburg and Jena Cabe combined to score 66 of the team’s 74 points. Greensboro finished the game shooting 37.7% from the field but connected on 61.5% of its attempts from behind the arc and went 26-32 from the charity stripe.

The Pride forced 26 turnovers for the game, which resulted in 30 points. Greensboro also held a commanding 43-26 advantage in the rebounding category.

With the victory, The Pride improve to 2-0 on the young season. Greensboro will return to action on Saturday against host St. Mary’s.
