Elon Phoenix Track and Field Opens Season at Liberty Kickoff

LYNCBURG, Va. – The Elon track and field team opened the season strong with several great performances at the Liberty Kickoff, including two titles. The Phoenix swept the podium in the 400-meter dash and won the 4×400-meter relay for the second straight year.

Amy Salek, Bria Bell and Veronica Luedke claimed first through third, respectively, for Elon in the 400m. Salek clocked a time of 56.88, while Bell and Luedke followed with times of 59.23 and 59.59.

The 4x400m relay team, comprised of Bell, Luedke, Abigail Steinseik and Salek, clocked a time of 3:56.54 to claim first out of 16 teams.

Salek was Elon’s top finisher in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.93 for fourth. Bell placed seventh after clocking a time of 26.28 and Dana Cataldo claimed ninth after finishing in 26.58.

In the field events, Jordan Lee cleared 5’3” for seventh in the high jump, while Claire Smith reached a height of 10’4” in the pole vault to take 10th. Janelle McNeil claimed 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 35’11.5”.

Jennifer Jarvis finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 38’10.25”, while Alyssa Girvin led Elon in the weight throw with a distance of 44’.5” for 11th.

The Phoenix will continue its indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the State Farm Games in Morgantown, W.Va.
