Greensboro College Swim Teams Sweep LaGrange, Men Earn Program’s First Victory

The Greensboro College men’s swim team picked up the first dual meet win in school history on Friday as The Pride swim teams swept LaGrange. The first year men’s team beat the Panthers 92-69 while the women swam to a victory of 180-141.

The men established two more program records with Jonathan Deming winning the 1000 Free and Ryan Hurd placing second in the 100 Fly. Hurd also won the 500 Free.

Ben Nihart improved his own 200 IM record in his second place finish in that event. Nihart also won the 100 Backstroke while Rob Smith took first in the 100 Breast.

The meet got off to a strong start as the men’s Medley Relay, consisting of Nihart, Smith, Hurd, and Jaivon Wesley earned a victory in the first event of the day.

The women, meanwhile, needed double wins by Emma Phillips (1000 Free, 100 Breast), Dani Horne (200 IM, 500 Free), and Taylor White (200 Free, 100 Fly), along with wins in both relays (comprised of Phillips, Horne, White, and Lauren Fisher) to earn their victory. Lauren Fisher also swam a career best in the 100 Breast which moved her into ninth all-time for the Pride.
