North Carolina team wins the Shrine Bowl game 26-19 in Spartanburg, S.C.

James Summers(Page HS), D.J. Reader(Grimsley HS) and Chris Pauling(High Point Andrews HS) will all come back to Guilford County winners tonight, as the Tar Heels beat the Sandlappers today 26-19 at Wofford College in Spartanburg, at the 75th Shrine Bowl Game…..

North Carolina 26
South Carolina 19

Todd Gurley(Tarboro HS) over 100 yards rushing and he had two TD’s and Jela Duncan, from Mallard Creek, also ran for over 100 yards for the victorious N.C. team…Not sure of total numbers for James Summers, but from what I could hear on the radio(1200AM/Graham) he did get the start at QB, but their were a lot of Wildcat snaps going into that Tar Heel backfield today…..Harbison from Mallard Creek had a kickoff return of 94 yards and a TD for the North Carolinians……

Greensboro Page quarterback James Summers, an NC State recruit, broke a run to the South Carolina 1-yard line in the third quarter. Two plays later, Todd Gurley(Tarboro) scored the 1-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 13-13.*****Gurley was named offensive game MVP….*****

  2. Summers ran for 12 yards on 7 carries with one 14 yard run. Passing was 2-5 for 17 yards. He made some key blocks while playing WR. He didn’t play much QB but no one did as the NC coaches ran the wildcat with Gurley. He played very well at WR.
