New Garden Friends traveled to Pennsylvania last week with only seven players and knocked off Sankofa Freedom Academy from Philadelphia….This week the Bears played in the Morehead Holiday tournament (again with just seven players) and defeated Bassett, Va., in the opening round before losing on consecutive nights to New Bern (81-79) and Morehead (59-57 in O/T). The Bears play at Caldwell next Friday (Jan 06).

  2. When are the NGFS Bears expected to get some of their players back and hopefully their big man will be back in there….He is a good one and they miss him….

  3. Where is NGFS’s big man: Adam Coble? We watched them play and thought they played hard but did not have the bench and discipline to win close games. The last team (Eden) was the game we watched. New Garden had way too many empty possessions (turnovers, bad shots, charges, etc). The other team just held the ball and was patient – looking for the best shot. I did not see any of the previous games but the Eden parents who scouted said Ingram was on pace for a 30+ game (maybe 5 or 6 threes in the 1st half) and they froze him out in the 2nd half. I saw the same with Morganstern last night. Hot hand needs the ball. But until their guards place sharing the ball over scoring, they will have issues. And without a big man, they will usually go one and done on most shots. On a more positive note, they are much stronger, quicker, and skilled. NGFS is sneaking up on some teams and they are definitely building a stronger program. When they gel, they will be dangerous.

  4. Actually, New Garden is extremely disciplined on defense. Without a big man they still make it very difficult to get to the basket. They play a good team defense. Eden Morehead was not so much holding the ball looking for the best shot as they were completely unable to get a good shot in the second half against the Bears defense.

    It will be tough for them to change their lineup when they get a player or two back. Their short rotation is working very well and they may not wish to tamper with it. It will be interesting to see how they fare against a big Caldwell team in their next game and then how they can hold up against the depth of Greensboro Day. Their offense does seem to be stagnant at times with possessions and shots being forced. Too bad given that they have a few kids who are really talented with the ball.

  5. Why are we even discussing NGFS? They have no relevance in the basketball community and from the names I’ve seen on their roster it seems that a few if not all of these kids would go to any school to get significant playing time. Is this the first year of them having a team at NGFS?

  6. Go watch their top three and then come back. Each of these kids can play at the next level especially Obi-Rapu.

    The reason hoops123 is discussing NGFS is because he’s interested in them, as are BearsFan and several others who post frequently on this site. Last time I checked, this is “GreensboroSports.com”, not “OnlyProbableStateChampions.com”. They are obviously excited about their team, and from what they say, with good reason. We’ll welcome them into the Eagle’s Nest Friday and look forward to a good game. By the way, from what I understand about NGFS’s new facility (that opens 1/10), it will be one of the nicest in the area. Congrats to the Bears on a good season so far and we’ll see you Friday.

  8. Where will the new gym at New Garden be located???? On the campus with Guilford College and if so, over around the NGFS side of the campus…..A good idea on this and a thought would be for New Garden Friends School to become a feeder for the Guilford College Quakers….There is no reason why this shouldn’t work……NGFS will have some of the current kids that will play in college and so will Caldwell Academy…..Emeka, Matt and Kobani from Caldwell should get college looks…..We are probably talking DII and DIII in many cases, but htere may a DI offer coming through here too…..Maybe something like a UNC-Asheville, High Point, Elon, Campbell, Pembroke or others…..
