In the Cowboys last non-conference matchup of the season, they got on the bus to
take on the Hornets of Western Guilford. The Cowboys were hoping to bounce back from
a complete no-show the night before. It was made even more challenging with 2 of
their top weapons out with injury. The Hornets struck first and that was the last
lead of the night for the hosts. Southwest scored the next 9 points and seemed to
take the momentum. The Hornets showed fight and got it back to a 12-11 score in
favor of the Cowboys. Unlike the last few nights, Southwest had more energy and
hustled it back out to 19-11 as the first quarter ended. Western used a quick spurt
to make it 19-15, but the Cowboys started running again and pushed it out to as many
as 16, and at the break it stood at 43-30 with Southwest in front. The third quarter
had Southwest holding strong until the final minute of the frame as Western pushed
hard, including a tip-in at the buzzer to make it 63-53. Southwest looked to push it
back out but Western responded and would not fold, and got it as close as ten, but
that was as close as the Cowboys allowed it to get until a late 3 just before the
buzzer put the final tally at 85-74. Western was lead by Aaron Woodard (18), Tariq
Watkins (17), Creg Reed (12), and Jeffrey Mosley (11). Southwest was lead by Jordan
Hanner (35) and Braxton Daye (12) along with Anton Morgan stepping up big with
several blocks and tremendous rebounds, he stepped big and was the motor the Cowboys
needed to get back to winning.
