The Pride men’s basketball team jumped on top early and led wire-to-wire in a big 85-72 road win over Ferrum on Wednesday. The win marked the fourth in a row for Greensboro and the sixth in its past seven. It was also the first win at Ferrum since the 2006-07 season.
The Pride scored the first eight points of the night to set the tone from the beginning. The Panthers were able to pull within 21-19 with 7:58 to go in the first before Greensboro answered with six straight points to push the lead back to eight at 27-19. The margin grew to nine with The Pride taking a 39-34 advantage into half.
Greensboro held Ferrum at arms length in the second half and eventually stretched the lead to double figures at the 13:59 mark, following a lay-up by Andre Porter. A three-pointer by Devonta Davis made the score 60-47 and capped an 8-0 jolt by The Pride.
Ferrum would get no closer than eight points while Greensboro continued to add cushion, going up by as many as 18, which occurred with 5:30 remaining, leading 77-59.
T.J. Holman led all scorers on the night with 17 points and was one of five Pride players to reach double digits in scoring. Brock Moorman contributed 14 points and eight boards, Chakiris Moss had 12 points, with Davis and Porter coming in at 11 points apiece.
Greensboro converted 43.5% of its field goal percentages and went 5-16 from three. The Panthers finished the game shooting 41.5% from the field and were limited to 4-14 from beyond the arc. The Pride held a commanding 50-31 advantage in the rebounding category.
Greensboro moves to 8-3 on the year and 1-0 in USA South play. The Pride will hit the road again on Saturday at Maryville. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
