Gabby Oglesby, Guilford College 2014

Oglesby, a 5-11 forward, averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game in the Quakers’ 3-0 week. She had a game- and career-high 26 points, a game-best 10 rebounds and a school-record seven blocks in Guilford’s 90-75 win over Randolph-Macon College Jan. 6. In Guilford’s 75-66 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College the following day, Oglesby collected a game-high 24 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. She had 16 second-half points, which helped the Quakers overcome a six-point second-half deficit and pass the Marlins atop the league standings.

Oglesby, who shot 60 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free-throw line last week, also had a 12-point, seven-rebound, three-block showing in Guilford’s Jan. 3 win at Hollins University. Her play helped the Quakers extend their winning streak to nine, the program’s longest since 2001-02.

Oglesby ranks third among Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) scoring leaders with a team-high 15.5 points per game average. Her club-best 7.5 rebounds per outing tops the Quakers and stands eighth in the league. She has an ODAC-best 2.0 blocks per game average and connects on 55.5% of her field goals, the loop’s third-best figure. Oglesby has two double-doubles this season and has scored in double figures nine times.

Coach Stephanie Flamini’s team is 9-2 (6-0 ODAC) headed into a three-game road swing that starts Tuesday (1/10) at league-rival Randolph College.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
