Dynamo Players Drafted by Major League Soccer

Andrew Wenger goes as the #1 Overall Player Selected

Today three former Carolina Dynamo players were selected as part of Major League Soccer’s 2011 Superdraft held at the NSCAA Convention in Kansas City Missouri. Hermann Trophy award winner, and 2011 Dynamo standout Andrew Wenger (Duke) was the #1 overall player selected by the Montreal Impact. Wenger who decided to forgo his Sr. season at Duke, had already signed a contract with Major League Soccer as part of Generation Adidas, and was simply waiting to find out which MLS Club would draft him. Chris Estridge (Indiana/Wake Forest) was chose as the 2nd pick of the 2nd round by Vancouver, as the 21st overall pick. Warren Creavalle (Central Florida/Furman) was selected in the 2nd rounds 18 selection by the Houston Dynamo, as the 37th overall pick.

Including these three players the Dynamo have had 42 players drafted by Major League Soccer since joining the PDL back in 2004, and 61 drafted since Major League Soccer’s 1996 inaugural year.

Andrew Wenger (Dynamo 2010, Duke)
Position: Defender/Forward
Hometown: Lititz, PA
High School/Club: Warwick H.S./Pennsylvania Classics

Wenger (Duke) is the only player in ACC history to earn both Defender of the Year and Attacking Player of the Year in back to back seasons. Andrew was name 1st Team All-ACC and 1st Team All-American as a forward this past season, leading the ACC in scoring with 17 goals and eight assists totaling 42 overall points. Wenger split time as both a defender and a forward for the Dynamo in 2010, scoring two goals in eight matches.

Chris Estridge (Dynamo 2009-10, Wake Forest/Indiana)
Position: Forward/Defender
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
High School/Club: Brownsburg H.S./Carmel United SC

Estridge during his two seasons with the Dynamo appeared in 13 games, scoring four goals while dishing out two assists. Chris transferred from Wake Forest to Indiana after his sophomore season. Estridge was named NSCAA All-American this past season.

Warren Creavalle (Dynamo 2010, Furman/University of Central Florida)
Position: Midfielder/Defender
Hometown: Acworth, GA
High School/Club: North Cobb H.S./North Atlanta Soccer Association

During the 2010 season Warren appeared in 10 matches for the Dynamo scoring one goal while anchoring the midfield. Warren transferred from Furman to Central Florida after his sophomore season, being named to the All-Conference USA 1st Team both years at UCF. While at Furman, Creavalle was twice named to the All-Southern Conference 2nd Team. Warren was also a member of the U-20 US national Team.

Both Karo Okiomah (High Point) and Kirk Urso (UNC Chapel Hill) are projected to be selected in Major League’s Soccer Supplemental l Draft being held Tuesday, January 17th in New York.
