College Track and Field Results – Guilford Completes Day 1 at Dick Taylor Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Guilford College sophomore Johnathan Smith (Conyers, Ga./Salem) broke his own school record and placed fifth overall in the 60-meter dash Friday at the Dick Taylor Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Smith broke the former standard of 7.00 seconds he set last season in Friday’s preliminaries. He turned in a time of 6.96 seconds, which was the fifth-fastest qualifying time. Smith also took fifth in the 60-meter final with a time of 6.99 seconds, the fastest among Division III contestants.

Guilford had three other sprinters in competition Friday, none of whom reached the final. The bulk of the Quakers’ contestants compete Saturday, the event’s final day.
