Elon Men’s Tennis Finishes Duke Invitational Strong Against William & Mary

DURHAM, N.C. – The Elon University men’s tennis team wrapped up three days of action in the Duke Invitational with a match against William & Mary today, Jan. 16, at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

In this points event, each player has the opportunity to earn points based upon the position in which he is playing in the ladder. For example, a win at number one singles would earn the player eight points while a win at number two would be worth seven points. The same applies for the four doubles pairings.

In doubles play, Cameron Silverman and Eric Turner claimed four points in the number one spot over the Tribe’s Jacob Braig and Will Juggins, 8-3. William & Mary’s John Banks and Ben Hoogland defeated Stefan Fortmann and Andrew Prince, 8-3, at number two. The Phoenix freshmen duo of Jordan Kaufman and Dan Sablik picked up two points at number three over Zach Braig and Adrian Vodislav, 8-7 (10-8).

At number one singles, Silverman defeated Juggins in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to claim eight points for Elon. Turner fell to Banks in a tight three-set tiebreak, 6-3, 0-6, 10-8, at number two.

Another win for the Phoenix came at number three where Kaufman picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory over J. Braig. The Tribe earned points at numbers four and five as Vodislav defeated Carlos Arboleda (7-5, 6-3) and Hoogland defeated Prince (6-3, 6-2).

Christopher Gleaslen picked up a strong win for the maroon and gold at number six over Zach Braig in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

Elon returns to action on Friday, Jan. 27, with a match at South Carolina at 10 a.m.
