Four Dynamo Players Selected in the MLS Supplemental Draft

Today four former Dynamo players were selected as part of Major League Soccer’s Supplemental Draft held at MLS headquarters in New York, NY. The Supplemental Draft serves as rounds three though six of the 2012 MLS Draft. Both Kirk Urso (UNC Chapel Hill) & Karo Okiomah (High Point) went in the 1st round, Urso as the 10th pick to the Columbus Crew, and Okiomah as the 12th pick to the Houston Dynamo. Michael Volk (Virginia) was selected in the 2nd round by the NY Red Bull as the 12th selection. Daniel Roberts (UNC Wilmington) was selected in the 4th round also by the Houston Dynamo as the 18th pick.

Including these four players the Dynamo have had 46 players drafted by Major League Soccer since joining the PDL back in 2004, and 65 drafted since Major League Soccer’s 1996 inaugural year.

Kirk Urso (Dynamo 2008-09, North Carolina)
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Lombard, IL
High School/Club: Glenbard East H.S./Chicago Sockers

Urso joined the Dynamo straight out of High School and appeared in 16 games, scoring two goals with four assists during the 2008 & 2009 seasons. In 2007, Urso starred for the US National Team in the U-17 World Cup. This past season Kirk, led UNC Chapel Hill to a National Championship and was named to the NSCAA All-South Region 1st team for his efforts.

Karo Okiomah (Dynamo, 2009-11, High Point)

Karo Okiomah

Karo was a three player for the Dynamo having appeared in 39 matches, making him the third most capped player in Dynamo history, since joining the PDL in 2004. Karo scored 14 goals while assisting on another 10, putting him as fourth in points for the Dynamo in the PDL era. While at High Point, Karo was named a Third Team All-American, Big South Player of the Year, and was a four time All-Conference performer.

Michael Volk (Dynamo 2008, Virginia/Rutgers)
Position: Defender
Hometown: Bear, DE
High School/Club: Salesianum H.S./Kirkwood Premier

Volk appeared as a center back in seven matches for the Dynamo after transferring from Rutgers to Virginia. While at UVA, Volk was a two time captain and a mainstay in the back for the Cavaliers. Volk was named to the 2009 College Cup All-Tournament Team after leading UVA to a National Championship.

Daniel Roberts (Dynamo 2009-10, UNC Wilmington)
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Sugar Land, TX
High School/Club: Clements H.S./Houston Dynamo Academy

Daniel saw action in 18 matches as a midfielder during his two seasons with the Dynamo. After an injury plagued Sr. season Roberts was a three time All-Colonial Athletic Conference midfielder while playing for the Seahawks.
