  1. It’s like gas prices, it goes up and down based on what they think may happen (speculation).
I agree though, a team with 4 losses should not be in the top ten. Its a poll which means its an opinion.
SEG needs to stay out of the polls until the end, and if we win the polls will take care of themselves.
Oh, and we did not “spank” Dudley. Both teams played well and we got the win. We will have to play
good again to get the win next time. Our season starts tonight against Smith, then, SA, Dudley, WG, and Page.
We need to win them all to get to the playoffs. There will a couple real good teams not make it to the playoffs
from the Metro, sad thing is they are probably better than some of the other 4a conference champs.

  2. For Southern Alamance it starts tonight and its “SHAY SHAY REDEMPTION TIME” as we enter pantherville. The race should become even tighter after tonight! We have no fear!

  3. The thing that hurt SEG was when they lost those back-to-back games to WG and PAGE….Until then, Southeast was sitting strong with just one loss and the Falcons were in the poll and if SEG had just one loss now, I think they would be Top Five in the poll…Page fell out too, when they lost at Dudley and when Dudley went on their conference run that got them back in the poll…Dudley being at (6-1) is bound to be swaying voters….The conference mark holds a lot of bearing on the final product…If Dudley would have lost that game to Smith at Smith last Friday night, they would not be in the poll this week…That was a three-point game and Dudley was fortunate to get out of there with that win….Dudley has really done quite well, when you consider that they lost their one of their top players, Ebona Goins, early in the season…She is UNCG-bound and Breonna Patterson(Dudley) is doing real good for herself over at UNCG….

  4. A conference with several teams with 5 conference losses or more at the end does not alway mean that it is a tough conference. Sometimes it means mediocrity has set in and no one has taken the Bull by the horns and distant themselves. Dudley appears to be doing that right now. Page has a chance to come out and be the better team of all down the stretch.

  5. There is no doubt that this Metro girls race is one of the best around….You have so many teams that are fighting it out…..Very strong core group and Grimsley is the only team that is not in contention this year..Dudley, Page, SEG, WG, Southern Alamance and Smith are teams that can stir it up and they have with SEG over Dudley, Page over SEG, Dudley over Page, WG over Page, WG over SEG, Smith over WG and SEG, SA over Smith, and on we can go…..This is a tough conference right now for the young ladies…..Most of the teams are chasing Dudley, but all want to make sure that they don’t lose a grip on second place too…..Others may agree or disagree, I would be curious to see……

  6. Conference Joe, I agree. Any time you have situations where as one of the lower tier teams can on a given night knock off the upper half, you will have a problem down the stretch. Grimsley for instance is capable of beating a Smith or Western Guilford on the right night and they are no where close to going any where. That is how teams whom seem like they were having a good season end up not making the playoffs and fans go off shaking their heads wondering what happen. Dudley has the eye of the tiger and they will win tonight against Southern Alamance and they will go in and demolish Southeast Guilford because they expect that. Dudley does not agree with what Falcon just said “That both teams played well”. They felt they played horrible and will show it in the next meeting. Sometimes its ok to stand up and take the stance “yeah we won and we believe we will win again” versus trying to be cordial and thinking that will cause the opposing team to let their guard down. Dudley is coming in looking to destroy and if the opposing team is not ready, then so be it. That is why they have dominated the conference over the years. At least Southern Alamance has the confidence that they can beat anyone in the conference and I would not be surprise if they are not in the championship game come conference tournament time and could win it.

  7. An equally important question becomes, will any of the boys teams beat Page this year, or will the Pirates run the table in the Metro basketball, just like they did in football???

  8. I agree Andy….this is a conference race, but it’s a race to the finish. Round two begins for us (SA) tonight with Dudley, then Southeast on friday and so on. There are 5 or 6 games left to be played and considering the talent throughout this conference every game is critical. This thing is going “down to the wire” watch what I tell you. It will probably be the same way next year to some extent and since we (SA) have “no seniors” I like our chances now and even better then. Play ball!

  9. Don’t forget that our Southern Alamance beat Smith pretty bad and Dudley only beat Smith by three! Yeah! I like our chances tonight eventhough Tracy will not. We have a secret weapon for the lil pantherettes!

  10. @Panther Nation, Quite honestly… we expect to win this game as well as any other game that we play, WE have nothing to lose….haven’t yet established a “rep” yet. There isn’t any quit on our team and if you expect us to “tuck tail and run” because we hear the word “Dudley”or because we are in as you say “death valley” you might want to pack a lunch…we ain’t going nowhere. Play ball!

  11. Smith at Page next Tuesday night and the Eagles will get a shot at the Pirates and they must take care of business until then…..Brandi Robinson to lead the girls and Tracy Gathings the boys and look out for Eric Carter down the stretch…

  12. Our Pirate girls are in the right position to take over and win this conference down the stretch. We have Paris who is unstoppable. We have Kayla who can pound the glass! We have Chelsey who can take care of the post. We have Debresha whom can do a little of everything. We have Aletta whom can shut down other teams guards! We have all types of players ready to do battle. We like our chances!

    GO PIRATES!

  13. If I am not mistaken, but wasn’t our COWGIRLS the State Champs last year? We are 13-4 this year and yall talking about Page, Dudley, Southeast Guilford etc…. Please! When the dust settles, everyone of those teams still have to come through COWGIRL COUNTRY! OH by the way! We still have Zena, Shanel and Jessica whom have already been proven! Yall can name all those folks if you want from Page, Southern Alamance, Dudley, Southeast, Western Guilford etc.. But none have performed at the levels of the three just mentioned!

  14. I agree with you that SWG should be getting more respect after winning it all last year(2010/2011) but will their conference give them a tough enough test to have them ready for the postseason wars of 2012???

  15. These parents sound confident! Are all of the teams undefeated? It sounds like you are all having fun so enjoy it. Win or lose, there are some very good teams in that conference.

  16. This is a crucial week for the girls teams in contention in the Metro Conference. A team that is in first place could easily go to thrd or fourth with two consecutive losses. A team in second can go to fifth or six as well. Third place teams can move up with two straight wins and contend for conference title. Two straight losses could be a disaster. Fourth place teams with a spilt could hold serve. Fifth place team with two straight wins could move into thrid provided the second place team losses two straight. Anything less could spell the end unless they win the conference tournament. The sixth place team with two straight wins means nothing but that and a few bragging rights but nothing more. Teams that say “Its not about winning and just having fun” are normally teams that do not win and that is no fun! The most focus teams will emerge and have an opportunity to go to the dance! If one does not go all they can hang their hopes on is ” we were in a tough conference” ! Yeah! that sounds good but it is no fun!

  17. Unfortunately the 6th place team in the Metro could probably defeat or definitely contend with some of the conference champions throughout the state. However, not all 6 will make it to the play offs.

  18. I really like your attitude….it’s not about how big the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog. Really sounds like a great game tonight and I wish SA the best. However, those Panthers are hard to beat in their gym and they are tough. May the best team win. I do have to say that your daughter has brought alot of excitement seems like to SA. Something can be said for those that transfer to not so good teams and do their best to try to help them win. People knock these kids when they think they transfer for basketball but when they transfer and the teams aren’t that good and the kids perform…they still don’t get the respect they deserve.

Everything is so biased…just like the polls and the blogs….so my hat goes off to Shay for uplifting her team even if they don’t win the conference, at least people don’t think it can be a cake walk like the previous year and hopefully with her there the team will only get better.

However, always remember…one can be biased…but numbers don’t lie!!!!

  19. Uhh pardon me SW Guilford fan..?? yall lost to Western Guilford a team that is in the thick of the Metro race. Yall got handled pretty good by West Forsyth…. A team that Dudley beat. Yall lost to HP Andrews a team that Smith smacked by 30 and on top of all of that you guys play in probably the weakest 4A conference in the state. You might just wanna sit over there and chill while we have our Metro 4A talk. Yall will have your chance soon enough. Any team that can rebound the basketball you guys can not compete with.

  20. The 4 losses other than the one to SEG were to nationally ranked Thomasville Prep and two other big time programs. Its not the losses but who you lost to

  21. All we have to say is State 4A Champions! Not 3A, 2A or 1A. Until you accomplish this, 1 for the money, there is nothing u can say. But we will give you an A for effort.

  22. Its funny how SWG get up here and talk. They run from competition. Dudley girls have been trying to schedule them forever, and they won’t play!!! If SWG girls had to play Butler last year, they would have lost. They got lucky and caught all the breaks last year. They would have not beat Dudley girls on thier best day last year and they won’t best them on their best day this year!!!
