Men’s Basketball Final – Guilford 67, Randolph 47

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gabriel Lowder (Yadkinville, N.C./North Forsyth) scored a game-high 15 points and Carson Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) added 13 in Guilford College’s 67-47 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Randolph College Wednesday night.

Lowder scored 11 points in the first half and Sullivan had 11 in the second half as the (14-5, 8-2 ODAC) cruised to their fifth straight win. Lowder and Matt McCarthy hit consecutive three-pointers to trigger a 13-2 run midway through the first half. Colton Hunt’s (Whittier, N.C./Smoky Mountain) three-pointer brought the WildCats (7-11, 2-7 ODAC) to within seven with 4:34 left before halftime, but the Quakers ended the frame on a 10-3 run to take a 34-20 halftime lead. The Quakers shot 54.5% in the first half.

Sullivan hit all of his career-high three three-pointers in the second half, two during a 12-2 Guilford spurt that opened a 22-point lead with 14:44 left in regulation.

The Quakers enjoyed a commanding 40-25 rebounding edge that included 17 offensive boards, which led to 15 second-chance points. Lowder and Brad Monroe (Asheboro, N.C./Eastern Randolph) both had a game-high seven rebounds. Rookie Will Freeman chipped in with nine points and six boards off the bench. Randolph held Guilford leading scorer Josh Pittman (Trinity, N.C./Archdale) to six points, but the junior dished out a game-high five assists and committed only one turnover.

Hunt paced the WildCats with 12 points, six boards, five assists and two steals. Zach Desgain (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) also had 12 points, 10 in the second half.

The two teams meet again Feb. 11 in Lynchburg, Va. Guilford returns to action Sunday (1/29) at league-rival Randolph-Macon College.
