Distance Runners Pace Elon Track and Field in Day One of UNC Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon track and field team turned in several great performances, including one title, in the first day of the UNC Invitational today, Jan. 27.

Elon swept the podium in the 3,000-meter run as Allyson Oram took top honors with a time of 10:12.34. Oram fell just short of breaking her own school record of 10:12.04 that she set last season. Morgan Denecke claimed second with a time of 10:14.71, while Haylee Dawe finished third in 10:17.00.

Alyssa Girvin was the top Elon finisher in the weight throw with a toss of 46’6.75” for 10th. Other notable finishes for the Phoenix came from Veronica Luedke (9.47), who claimed 10th in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, Dana Cataldo (8.04) in the 60-meter dash preliminaries for 11th place and Ellie Taff (1:44.33) with an eighth-place finish in the 600-meter run.

Elon will conclude action in the UNC Invitational tomorrow, Jan. 28, with events beginning at 10 a.m.
