CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon track and field team completed action in the UNC Invitational today, Jan. 28, with competitors in eight of the day’s events.
The Phoenix turned in several great performances in the 400-meter dash placing three runners in the top six. Amy Salek claimed second with a time of 56.34, while Bria Bell finished right behind in third, clocking a time of 58.20. Veronica Luedke finished in 59.54 to take sixth.
Salek (25.74) and Bell (25.79) also finished in the top 10 of the 200-meter dash in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Dana Cataldo clocked a time of 26.28 in the event for 11th.
Brennan McDavid, Christine Pacewicz, Ellie Taff and Emily Tryon comprised Elon’s 4×400-meter relay team that finished with a time of 4:31.75.
In the one-mile run, Tryon claimed third with a time of 5:14.17. Pacewicz also finished in the top 10 after clocking a time of 5:20.68 for ninth, while McDavid took 14th after finishing in 5:27.88. Jenny Gallagher and Taff completed the 800-meter run with times of 2:28.01 and 2:29.20, respectively, for seventh and eighth.
Haley Laird and Jordan Lee finished fourth and fifth in the high jump after both reaching a height of 5’3”. In the triple jump, Luedke claimed fifth with a leap of 35’10”, while Lee jumped a distance of 33’6.5” for seventh.
Charlise Morgan was Elon’s top finisher in the shot put with a toss of 39’8.75” for eighth, while a throw of 35’5.75” placed Jennifer Jarvis in 12th.
The Elon track and field team will compete next in the Kent Taylor Invitational (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and the Sykes-Sabock Challenge (State College, Pa.) on Saturday, Feb. 4.
