HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN’S SHAWN MILLSAP WILL PLAY FOOTBALL AT CAMPBELL UNIVERSITY

Last Friday marked an important landmark in the development of High Point Christian Academy’s football program. Shawn Millsap became the first Cougar to commit to play college football signing on with the Campbell University Camels. HPCA completed its second varsity football season last fall and this May will witness the graduation of several student-athletes who helped to build the program from scratch, including Shawn Millsap. Millsap, a four year captain for the Cougars, excelled at tight end this season leading the Carolina Piedmont Football Conference in receptions at that position while also playing linebacker and defensive end.

“We are so happy for Shawn and his family and feel good that he will be playing for an outstanding coaching staff,” commented Steve Lechner, Head Coach of the HPCA Cougars. “Shawn is a great example of the good things that can happen when one commits to hard work and focuses on doing things that are in the best interest of the team,” Lechner added. Millsap served as the Cougars quarterback during its early development but moved to tight end this past season. Lechner pointed out that Millsap “accepted his new role with class and with a commitment to become an exceptional tight end.” Shawn Millsap added that “I am excited about this new challenge and eager to continue what I started at High Point Christian.”
Campbell University is a co-education college located in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Camels, led by Head Coach Dale Steele, play at the FCS level as a member of the Big South Conference. High Point Christian Academy looks forward to at least two more senior football players committing to play collegiately in the near future. According to Coach Lechner, “College programs can see that we have high quality, well-coached players who are also great students and solid citizens off the field.”
