Late Run Pushes Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Past Emory & Henry, 68-60

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Greensboro College men’s basketball team used a late run to hold off Emory & Henry on Wednesday, 68-60. The victory helped stop a three game losing skid and push The Pride to 13-7 on the season. Greensboro also gained revenge after blowing a 17-point lead in a road defeat to the Wasps on December 7.

Neither team was able to gain much of an advantage in the first half, with the largest lead being four points for both teams. The Pride finished the first half shooting 14-27 from the field and took a 29-26 advantage into the break.

A three-pointer by T.J. Holman, followed by a lay-up by Luqman Tijani brought the Greensboro lead to 34-26 in the opening minute of the second half. Chakiris Mossknocked down a jumper at the 15:10 mark to push the margin into double digits at 42-31.

The gap did not last long as Emory & Henry rallied to knot the score at 50-50 with 6:22 to play. The Pride would not relinquish the lead, though, as back-to-back lay-ups by Moss and Tijani widened the lead to 54-50.

The Wasps would climb to within 58-57 before an 8-0 spurt gave Greensboro all the breathing room it would need. Tijani jumpstarted the run with a lay-up and Donald Anderson added on with a steal and a fastbreak score.

Holman brought the crowd to its feet, taking a feed from Moss off of an Emory & Henry turnover, and throwing home a one-handed dunk. Holman concluded the run with a quick steal, foul and free throw to make the score 67-59 in favor of The Pride.

Four Greensboro starters reached double figures in scoring for the game, with Tijani leading the way with 15 – 11 of which came in the second half. Also contributing for The Pride were Moss and Brock Moorman with 12 apiece and Holman with ten. Anderson, meanwhile, set the tone on defense with six steals.

Greensboro finished the night shooting 51.9% from the field and converted 12-17 free throws.

The Pride will hit the road on Saturday for their next game at North Carolina Wesleyan. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
