Former Northeast Guilford Ram, Derrick Woods-Morrow, reaches 1,000 point mark in his college career at Randolph College

Woods-Morrow Earns 1,00th Point In Randolph Men’s Shutdown Win over EMU

LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior forward Derrick Woods-Morrow
(Greensboro, NC/NE Guilford) picked up his 1,000th point Saturday, and
the Randolph College men’s basketball team forced a third consecutive
team into its season low for points in a game as the WildCats picked up
a crucial 64-47 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory from the
Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center Saturday afternoon.

Randolph (10-11/5-7 ODAC) has now won its past three
games, holding opposition to an average of 48.3 points per game over the
last three contests. The stingy WildCat defense held Eastern Mennonite
to 28.1 percent shooting and 47 points, its lowest output of the season
and lowest in at least six seasons.

Woods-Morrow scored his 1,000th and 1,001st points on a
jumper only 3:05 into the contest, making him the second WildCat in a
week to accomplish the feat. He joins a now group of 12 all-time at the
College to earn the accomplishment, with the latest being junior Colton
Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) who earned the feat last Saturday
against Hampden-Sydney College.

The WildCats led all but 68 seconds of the contest, as
EMU (9-12/4-8 ODAC) took leads in the opening minute of both the first
and second halves. In the opening stanza, Randolph used a 16-3 run to
open up a 13-point edge, capped by a pair of free throws by
Woods-Morrow. EMU would slowly creep back into the game, pulling even at
29 on a jumper from RJ Sims.

After the WildCats took a two-point lead into
intermission, EMU nailed a three only 17 seconds into the second period
to take a one-point lead at 33-32. A subsequent 12-1 run from the
WildCats pushed them back ahead by 10 at 47-37. After EMU cut the lead
to six with 9:57 left, the Colton Hunt show made a re-appearance.

Over the last seven minutes of the game, Hunt scored 12
of his game-high 22 points while the Randolph defense allowed two field
goals over the last 10 minutes to put the game away. Hunt finished
five-of-12 from the field, but made nine-of-10 from the line. He also
grabbed seven boards and posted a season-high six steals.

Woods-Morrow posted his sixth double-double of the
season, posting 15 points to go with 11 rebounds. He now sits at 1,012
points on his career. Sophomore guard Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh,
NC/Ravenscroft) had 12 points and four boards, while Zach Desgain
(Richmond, VA/J.R. Tucker) posted nine points.

The WildCats were 15-of-18 from the line on the contest,
while firing 42.3 percent from the floor. Only four points were scored
from the bench of Randolph, but Cameron Colquitt (Mechanicsville,
VA/Atlee) had a great game, dishing out two assists and playing stellar
defense all contest.

EMU was led by the 10 points from Daniel, while Ryan
Yates added nine points as a reserve for the Runnin’ Royals. Sims and
Andrew Thorne each added eight points for Eastern Mennonite, which
struggled from the line, making only 46.7 percent from the charity
stripe.

The WildCats now sit in sixth place in the ODAC, a game
and a half behind Lynchburg College. The Hornets will travel across town
Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. for a huge contest in the RAD Center.

Class of 2015 members are invited to a pre-game tailgate
in the RAD Center lobby and also will have special seating for the
contest. It is also Faculty-Staff Appreciate Night at Randolph, where
selected members will be honored during the halftime break.
