Remembering Angelo Dundee and Charlie Spoonhour

Angelo Dundee, the man who was the manager and trainer for Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, died this week….Dundee was 90 and Spoonhour, who was the basketball coach at St. Louis, also passed this week and Charlie was 72….

Dundee died down in Tampa, Florida and Spoonhour died in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Dundee was known as a motivator of the fighters he trained and was considered the ‘best cornerman’ of all time…..

Spoonhour loved to have a good time and he was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and he was best known for coaching at St. Louis University, where he led the the Billikens to the NCAA tournament…Spoonhour also was the head basketball coach at Southwest Missouri State and at UNLV, among other places…..

Spoonhour was at St. Louis University when Debbie Yow(Gibsonville, N.C.) became one of the first female athletic directors in the U.S., when she took over the Billikens’ athletic department…..

Good hard working, well-liked leaders that will be remembered for a long time to come….Anyone that has followed boxing at all in the past 40-50 years, will never forget the name Angelo ‘Angee’ Dundee…..
