Girvin Sets Elon Track and Field Record at Kent Taylor Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon track and field team completed action in the Kent Taylor Invitational today, Feb. 4, with several top performances, including two titles and a school record in the weight throw.

Alyssa Girvin set a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of 48’8.25”. Also competing with Girvin in the weight throw was Charlise Morgan, who claimed fifth with a throw of 45’5.25”.

Amy Salek fell just short of her Elon record in the 400-meter dash, finishing second with a time of 55.84. Bria Bell (25.72) and Dana Cataldo (26.11) claimed third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Both Cataldo and Luedke finished in the top 8 of the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for the finals. Cataldo took eighth with a time of 7.95 in the 60m, while Luedke finished fourth in the 60m-hurdles in 9.17.

Bell, Luedke, Abigail Steinsiek and Salek teamed up for the 4×400-meter relay, finishing second with a new season-best time of 3:56.75.

The Phoenix excelled in the distance events with four top three finishes in three events. Haylee Dawe and Morgan Denecke went one-two in the 3,000-meter run with times of 10:18.05 and 10:21.65, respectively. Julie Hart ran the 800-meter run in 2:20.08 for second, while Allyson Oram took third in the one-mile run with a time of 5:05.12.

In the field events, Morgan claimed second in the shot put with a throw of 41’9.75”. Jordan Lee and Haley Laird finished fourth and fifth in the high jump with heights of 5’5” and 5’3”.
