The Pride didn’t get rolling until late in the first half, but took a nine-point lead into halftime and walked away with a convincing road victory, 90-71. Head coach Randy Tuggle’s team has been hot since mid-January, stringing together eight consecutive wins. Greensboro is now 16-3 on the season, with an 11-2 mark in conference play.
The game looked close early on, but with The Pride trailing 15-11 with 12:23 on the clock, Bianca Richburg hit a lay-up that started a 20-3 run. Five different players scored during the run, which gave Greensboro a double-digit lead, and effectively took the Bishops out of the game. NC Wesleyan tried to re-establish themselves late in the half, scoring five unanswered before the break, but Greensboro would put them away in the second half.
The teams traded baskets for the first eight minutes of the half, but a lay-up by Danielle Duncan pushed Greensboro’s lead back to ten and they never looked back. Several small runs continued to extend The Pride’s lead and the women never took their foot off the gas pedal, finishing with 91 points.
Their offensive output is the second highest of the season, following 93 points against Peace on Tuesday, and was fueled by three double-doubles. Richburg led all scorers with 31 to go along with ten rebounds, while Duncan scored 22 and had ten rebounds as well. Andrienne Terrell followed a 22 point performance against Allen with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, just shy of The Pride’s first triple-double of the season.
Dorian McInnis had a good night as well, scoring seven points and tallying five rebounds in her first career start, filling in for the injured Chevena Pickard. All 13 women saw action for Tuggle and they all contributed to the final scoresheet with either points or rebounds.
The Pride will be back in action tomorrow against Meredith at 2:00 p.m. before battling the Ferrum Panthers for second place in the USA South on Wednesday. Greensboro will conclude next week clashing with the top-ranked Christopher Newport Captains, with a chance to establish themselves atop the conference once more.
