College Men’s Lacrosse News – Guilford Picked Seventh in Preseason ODAC Coaches’ Poll

FOREST, Va. — Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s lacrosse coaches tabbed Guilford College seventh in their annual preseason poll released Wednesday. The Quakers received 12 points in the eight-team ranking.

First and second place differed by only point with Lynchburg College taking first with 46 points and Roanoke College second with 45. Lynchburg was runner up in the 2011 ODAC Tournament to Roanoke. Both teams received four first-place votes.

Guilford head coach Tom Carmean begins his second season with 19 returning students from last year’s 9-7 team (2-5 ODAC). The Quakers enjoyed their finest season since 1992 and posted a six-win improvement over the 2010 campaign.

Greg Nash returns for his senior season as an attackman after earning honorable mention All-ODAC recognition as a midfielder last year. He stood third on the team with a career-high 28 points and scored at least one point in 13 of 16 games. Nash is also one of Guilford’s three captains along with classmates Chris Ashcraft and Chris Sisk. Ashcraft is second among returning scoring leaders after compiling 32 points on a team-high 20 goals and 12 assists. Sisk also scored 20 goals in 2011.

The Quakers have completed two scrimmages and officially open the season Feb. 13 at home against Shorter College.
