College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 14, Shorter 4

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greg Nash (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) scored a career-high five goals and an assist in Guilford College’s 14-4 season-opening lacrosse win over visiting Shorter University Monday.

Nash, a senior attackman, netted the first goal 2:49 into the game, which triggered a three-goal blitz over the next 66 seconds. The Quakers’ Henry Farley scored at the 11:35 mark and Nash fed Ashcraft 30 seconds later as the hosts grabbed a 5-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Jess Rogers added three goals in his Guilford debut. Ashcraft and Ian Parker both tallied twice as six different Quakers dent the twine. Rookie Chandler Zirkle chipped in a game-high three assists in his college debut and classmate Thomas Deane made six saves in goal.

Guilford outshot the Hawks, 44-22, and collected 35 ground balls to Shorter’s 25. The Hawks (0-2) committed 26 turnovers in their third game in four days. Michael Matthews scored twice for the Hawks.

The Quakers visit Ferrum College this Saturday (2/18) at 1:00 p.m.
