High Point Andrews boys win PAC 6 2-A Tourney Title and HPA girls win first Tournament Title in 20 years

HIGH POINT – The third time was the charm for the T.W. Andrews boys.

After losing to Trinity twice during the regular season, the second-seeded Red Raiders hit key shots on offense and clamped down on defense to beat the top-seeded Bulldogs 62-49 on Friday at Wheatmore to repeat as PAC-6 2A tournament champions.

“It feels great,” senior guard Jalen Ford said with a smile. “They beat us twice, so it feels great to get this win right here. It feels so good right now.”

Ford finished with a game-high 32 points to lead Andrews (19-6). After the Red Raiders trailed by 11 with 5:45 left in the second, Ford caught fire, scoring nine points on four consecutive possessions…..

HIGH POINT – The T.W. Andrews girls were determined to complete what they started.

Despite a rally by the third-seeded Bulldogs in the second half, the top-seeded Red Raiders played well in the first half and held on for a 46-39 win Friday at Wheatmore to win the PAC-6 tournament title.

“I’m very jubilant for the kids,” Andrews coach John Shearin said. “They’ve worked hard to this point. They’ve given up their free time and done all the right things, on the court and off. It feels good to reap some kind of benefit for all the hard work the ladies have been putting in.”

After going a perfect 10-0 in the PAC-6 to win their first regular-season title since 1997-98, the tournament title was the first for the Red Raiders (20-6) in roughly two decades, Shearin said…..
