College Basketball News – Guilford Men and Women Both Seeded Third For ODAC Tournaments

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are both seeded third in the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournaments. The tournaments will be played Feb. 21 on campus and 23-26 at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va..

The Quakers’ women ended the regular season Saturday with a loss to second-seeded Eastern Mennonite University, 68-56. Coach Stephanie Flamini’s squad will play a quarterfinal game against #6 Bridgewater College Thursday, Feb. 23 at 8:00 p.m. The Quakers won both contests against the Eagles this season, first by one point in overtime Jan. 13 and more recently, 70-49, Feb. 17. If it wins, Guilford plays Saturday, Feb. 25 against the winner of the Eastern Mennonite and #7 Roanoke College quarterfinal.

Sophomore Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mt. Tabor) leads the Quakers in scoring (14.7 ppg.), field-goal percentage (50.9) and blocks per game (2.36). Her 14.7 points per game rank fifth among ODAC leaders and her field-goal percentage (50.9) is third. Oglesby set Guilford’s career blocks Friday and her 59 blocks this season lead the league. Senior Jazlyn Gibbs (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford (USC-Aiken)). stands second in scoring (13.0 ppg.) and recently scored her 1,000th point in three seasons as a Quaker. She stands second among this year’s ODAC leaders in three-point field goal percentage (40.2). Guilford is enjoying its best season since 2002-03.

The Quakers’ men finished in third place with Hampden-Sydney College after the regular season, but earned the third seed by virtue of their 83-72 regular-season victory over the Tigers Feb. 15. Coach Tom Palombo’s squad plays its quarterfinal game Friday, Feb. 24 versus the winner of Tuesday’s #11 Roanoke-#6 Randolph first-round game. The WildCats beat the Quakers at home this season, 67-58, and also eliminated Guilford from last year’s ODAC Tournament. Guilford won its only game with Roanoke this year, 89-72, Feb. 1.

Senior Gabriel Lowder (Yadkinville, N.C./North Forsyth) averages 13.3 points per game and leads the Quakers in both field-goal percentage (44.4) and three-point field goal percentage (33.3). Lowder’s conference three-point field goal percentage (41.9) ranks fourth among ODAC leaders. He is second in scoring to junior Josh Pittman (Trinity, N.C./Trinity) (13.4 ppg). Pittman also leads Guilford in assists (68) and steals (44). Lowder (78.5) and Pittman (77.8) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, among ODAC free-throw percentage leaders.
