Southwest played hosts to a double header in the opening round of the State 4A
Tournament. In the boys bracket the Cowboys hosted conference rival Glenn, with whom
the regular season was split with the home team winning each game. Southwest came
out strong and seemed to have all the momentum getting up 18-10 but just before the
buzzer a 3 pointer cut it to 18-13. The second quarter had all the momentum change
midway through the frame as SW held a 25-18 lead, but the Bobcats stormed back to
take a 35-33 lead going into the locker rooms. The third quarter was a back and
forth dog fight with 5 ties and 7 lead changes. The frame ended with a dramatic
faraway three pointer that ended Glenn’s mojo to pull SW within one at 52-51. The
final frame opened with a Cowboys basket to take the lead at 53-52, which they never
relinquished. 4 straight Cowboy points pushed it out to 57-52 at the 6:00 mark, but
the Bobcats would fight to stay in it. A Glenn basket made it 57-54, then each team
traded 3 pointers to make it 60-57. A 3 point play made it 63-57 but by the 2:40
mark Glenn used a small spurt to make it 63-60. Southwest picked up the defensive
intensity while dominating possession of the ball while only allowing 2 more points
the final 1:20 of the game. The game ended with an emphatic windmill dunk by the
Cowboys to take the final tally to 72-62. Glenn was lead by Trey Lofton (21),
Devontae Miller (14). Southwest was lead by Brandon Clyburn (25) and Jordan Hanner
(21). The Cowboys move on to play on Wednesday night.
