GC Men’s Basketball Blows By Hornets to Advance to USA South Championship

The Pride men’s basketball team advanced to Sunday’s USA South Championship, beating Shenandoah 94-82 on Friday. Greensboro will travel to Christopher Newport on Sunday for a 2 p.m. title bout. Luqman Tijani tallied a game high 22 points to lead four Pride players in double figures.

Greensboro did not open up the game until the 4:01 mark in the first half, when a 10-0 run put The Pride on top 37-27. Greensboro held on to the ten point advantage into the break, leading 40-30.

The Pride wasted no time jumping out in front in the second half, pushing the margin to 20 points at 55-35 just over four minutes in. Greensboro would extend the lead to as many as 24 points.

The Hornets did make one final run, narrowing the gap to 13 down the stretch. Shenandoah would get no closer than that, however, until a three-point basket with 37 seconds to go made the final score 94-82.

Also contributing to the attack for The Pride were Devonta Davis with 14, and Damian Dixon and T.J. Holman with 13 apiece.

Greensboro shot a scorching 67.9% from the field and buried six three pointers. The Pride held a 34-31 advantage on the boards.

Greensboro swept the season series with Shenandoah, winning both regular season match-ups in addition to Friday’s post season showdown.
