GC Men’s Basketball Comes up Short in USA South Title Game

A strong second half propelled Christopher Newport past the Greensboro College men’s basketball team for the USA South title, 82-72. The Pride finished the season with an overall record of 18-10.

Greensboro controlled the first half, taking a 31-25 advantage into the break. The Pride never trailed, and finished the frame on a 5-0 run to break away from a 26-25 margin.

After a back-and-forth start to the second half, the Captains used a 17-0 run to take the lead at 48-37 with 10:37 to go in the game. Greensboro recovered, working its way back to within 65-62 at the 4:39 mark.

The Pride hung around until Christopher Newport puhsed the lead back into double figures at 74-64. Greensboro was unable to climb any closer down the stretch in the loss.

Luqman Tijani tied for a game high in scoring with 19 points. Devonta Davis also hit double digits with 14 with the help of three treys. Both Tijani and Davis made were named to the USA South All-Tournament Team.
