College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 21, Greensboro 8

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lily Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) scored a career-high six goals and Summer Frazier (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) added five goals and an assist in Guilford College’s 21-8 lacrosse win over Greensboro College Wednesday.

The 21 goals scored by Guilford ranks fourth all-time in school history and mark the most tallies in 20 meetings with its cross-town rival. The Quakers last scored 21 goals Mar. 17, 2009, against Frostburg State University.

Guilford (3-1) raced to an 8-1 lead as Colley scored three times and Frazier tallied twice. Greensboro (0-2) netted three of the half’s final five goals and trailed at halftime, 10-4.

Greensboro’s Brittany Ziobro (Winter Park, Fla./Lake Howell) scored the first two goals of the second half, which brought the Pride to within, 10-6, four minutes into the period. Guilford settled down to outscore their guests, 11-2, the rest of the way.

Sophomore E’Leyna Garcia (Plantation, Fla./Pine Crest Prep) had four goals and an assist for the Quakers, who enjoyed a 30-16 edge in shots. Becca Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) and Sarah Bradburd (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Friends’ Central) both added two scores. Lily Colley connected on all four free-position shots in the physical game that saw 69 combined fouls and eight yellow cards. Liza Metter made eight saves in goal. Guilford made scored on eight-of-11 free-position chances.

Ziobro paced the Pride with five goals and an assist. Guilford held Greensboro scoring leader Melissa Gallaher (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) to one goal after she had six tallies in the Pride’s 17-5 win over Guilford in 2011.

Guilford is back in action Sunday (3/4) at 2:30 p.m. against visiting Shenandoah University.
