Men’s Lacrosse Evens Record With 12-3 Win Over Randolph

The Pride men’s lacrosse team moved to 2-2 on the young season with an impressive 12-3 home victory over Randolph on Saturday. Greensboro exploded for six goals in the first period and outscored the WildCats 4-0 in the fourth to earn the win.

Thomas Brooks opened the scoring for The Pride less than two minutes into the game with an unassisted goal to go on top 1-0. Five different Greensboro players found the goal in the first period, with Alex Vanderhoff leading the way with two.

Randolph found the scoreboard with 2:34 left in the half as the game went into the break with The Pride holding a 6-1 lead.

Brooks and Scott Showalter both converted opportunities early in the third period as Greensboro pushed the advantage to 8-1. The WildCats closed back in, however, with two goals of their own to cut the gap to 8-3 after three quarters.

It was all Pride after that, as James Furlow, Jaeger Carlyle, Tyler Blevins and Vanderhoff each padded the Greensboro advantage with a goal in the fourth. Carlyle’s goal was the only extra man conversion of the game for Greensboro.

Vanderhoff led all scorers with three goals on seven attempts. Adding two apiece were Brooks and Showalter. Showalter also dished out two assists, as did Bill Blakely.

Greensboro fired 43 total shots compared to 21 for Randolph and won 13 of 18 face-off attempts. The Pride dominated the groundball category 50-24 and made good on one of their three extra man chances.

The next game on the schedule for Greensboro will be on March 7 at Ferrum. Game-time is set for 3:30 p.m.
