*****This just in:

Be sure to visit our sponsor Graham Sporting Goods at www.grahamsportinggoodsnc.com:
Tonight:
East Davidson 10
Southern Guilford 3

WP Avery Hodges
LP Camden Ball

Also Tonight:
Southeast Guilford 15
Grimsley 0
(5 Innings)
WP:Dallas Newton
LP:Zack LaBranch
HR:(SEG) Blake Butler….2-Run home run…
Austin Bain had a two-run Triple for the Falcons…Craig Jacobelli had two RBI’s….Dallas Newton had an RBI….Justin Reece had a Double for SEG…..

SEG Falcon pitching staff went with Dallas Newton 2 innings and he struck out 6 batters and walked one…Craig Jacobelli went two innings for the Falcons and he struck out three Whirlies….Devon Sweet finished up for SEG and he pitched one inning for the Falcons and struck out three…..

*****There was a wild and scarey play where Grimsley Whirlie pitcher Ben Lucas delivered the pitch to the plate and SEG’s Taylor Callahan hit the ball like a shot right back up the middle/box and it popped/smacked Lucas right in the head and at first it sounded like a cannonball making contact, but fortunately for Ben Lucas, the ball made initial contact with the bill of his cap and broke the bill of the cap and then popped Ben in forehead and he lay on the ground for several minutes and then he was finally able to sit up and then like a miracle, as he was saved by the bill of his cap, Ben Lucas was able to walk off the field under his own power…..We thank the good Lord up above that Ben was OK and as I write this, it brings back memories of the game last year, when Southwest Guilford’s Matt Orth was hit right in the head and Mo/Matt Orth had to be taken off to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Services vehicle….I’m sure many of you that are reading this can remember back to when that happened last year and Matt had to go to the hospital….Lee Hudgens was at tonight’s game and he was probably at last year’s game too when Matt got hit….I believe that SWG was playing East Forsyth that night…..All in attendance gave Ben Lucas a well-deserved round of applause when Ben was able to walk off the field and over into the Grimsley dugout after he got hit by that ball and again, Ben was most likely saved by the bill of his cap….That shot tonight, was just as loud as the one we heard last year, when Matt Orth took that shot right back up from the box….Good to see Ben Lucas was doing OK and Ben did not have to be transported from Southeast Guilford to the hospital…..

SEG at Smith coming up on Tuesday(5pm) and then back home on Friday night to face Southern Alamance(7pm)…Does not matter who is pitching for Southeast Guilford, they will be tough to beat whenever they take the field this season……Not sure about what’s up next for Grimsley, but it may just be a home date with Western Guilford on Tuesday night……

  1. Thats good news for that young man, looks like SE is strong again this year. Anyone have a early top 5 or ten in GC? Havent been able to get out and watch any games do to an injury.
    Thanks

    Vegas MIke

  2. East Davidson 10 Southern Guilford 3
    WP Avery Hodges
    LP Camden Ball
Southern Devonte Mason 2-4, Zack Canada 1-3 2b BB, Dustin Shackelford and Camden Ball also had hits for the Storm.
East Davidson Tyler Stroup played well for the Eagles

Ball pitched well but the Storm had to many errors behind him. This is a young team that will improve as the season progresses.

  3. Thank-you Southern Guilford Storm crew….You guys have been doing a great job of getting us your scores and information this year….Keep up thje good work and good luck to the boys…..

  4. Ben Lucas is one tough player, he should be congradulated for his 2 strikeouts in the game.

  5. This exact situation with the pitcher reminds me of a summer league baseball game, pitcher tyler parr went through this exact situation, the bill of his hat took most of the force out of the hit and could have saved his life.
