High Point’s Wallingford, Carroll earn NLC Lacrosse honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University junior goalie Anna Wallingford (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) was named National Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore attacker Mackenzie Carroll (Arnold, Md./Severn) was named NLC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. The two players led High Point in a win over UC Davis last week.

Wallingford had a breakout game for the Panthers, making 14 saves with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers as High Point beat UC Davis, 22-14. She played all 60 minutes and earned her first win for High Point. Wallingford earned her second victory in the Panthers’ win over Holy Cross last night and has a 2-1 record and 14.81 goals against average this season.

Carroll scored three goals and had three assists in the Panthers’ win over UC Davis. She had an assist on the first goal of the game. With HPU leading by just a goal late in the game, Carroll had an assist on Grace Gaeng’s goal and Carroll scored three goals in the last 14 minutes. In four games this season, Carroll has five goals and six assists for 11 points, good for third on the team.

Carroll earned her Co-Offensive Player of the Week honor along with Erin Doherty of Davidson and Jen Cosgrove of Jacksonville. The NLC Newcomer of the Week was Jacksonville’s Holly Ventimiglia.

The Panthers are 3-1 on the season, most recently getting a 13-12 win over Holy Cross on Monday night at Vert Stadium. High Point has a quick turnaround before hosting Vermont on Wednesday at noon.
