SoCon Honors Elon’s O’Shea as Softball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has named Erin O’Shea the softball player of the week for all games played March 5-11.

O’Shea led the Phoenix (14-3, 3-0 SoCon) to a series sweep of Furman over the weekend after hitting .714. The senior went 5-for-7 at the plate, scoring four runs and recording four RBI. O’Shea did not strike out in any at-bats and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. The Kennesaw, Ga., native had a .778 on base percentage and recorded a hit and stolen base in every game for the maroon and gold last week.

In Elon’s 13-8 win over the Paladins on Saturday, O’Shea finished 3-for-3, including a home run, with two runs scored and four RBI.

O’Shea also picked up to wins in the circle for the Phoenix in two starts and three appearances over the weekend. She made her 100th appearance at pitcher in Saturday’s 9-1 complete-game win and recorded her fourth shutout of the year in Sunday’s 3-0 victory.

This is the second time an Elon player has been honored by the conference this season. Camille Hill was named the SoCon Player of the Week on Feb. 13.

Elon will face No. 23 North Carolina on Wednesday, March 14, in a 4 p.m. game at East Field.
