Elon’s Silverman Named SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon sophomore Cameron Silverman has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 5-11. Silverman was a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles play as Elon recorded conference wins over Chattanooga (4-3) and Davidson (4-3).

A native of Mount Kisco, N.Y., Silverman picked up two straight-sets victories at the No. 1 position last week. Silverman downed Chattanooga’s Roberto Vieira, 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday and held off Davidson’s Joe Schafer 6-2, 7-5 on Sunday afternoon. He has now won his last five singles matches and is unbeaten in league play.

Teaming with Eric Turner as Elon’s top doubles team, Silverman and Turner extended their winning streak to four with victories over UTC’s Chris Smith and Ankit Chopra (8-3) and Davidson’s Schafer and Calum Gee (9-8).

The Phoenix is back at home tomorrow, March 14, at 2 p.m. for a non-conference match versus Texas-San Antonio.
