Greensboro College Baseball Sweeps Southern Virginia on Tuesday

The Pride baseball team rallied to beat Southern Virginia in game one and rolled by the Knights in game two for a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday. Greensboro came back from a 9-3 defecit to knock off Southern Virginia in the opener and won the night cap by a final score of 9-1.

In game one, The Pride pounded out 13 hits and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra frames. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Jon Krecicki laid down a bunt single that hugged the first base line to drive in the winning run.

Krecicki’s heroics were set-up by a four run, four hit seventh inning effort to keep the game alive. Tony Folsum had the key hit, with a base hit to left field that knotted the game up at 9-9 with two outs. Overall, The Pride sent six hitters to the plate with two outs.

The Knights opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning. Greensboro came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the gap to 3-2. The Pride evened the score at 3-3 in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Kyle Schmidt.

However, Southern Virginia went back on top 9-3 with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. Folsum helped bring Greensboro to within 9-5 in the sixth with a two run single.

Nine Pride players recorded hits in the win with Grant Kelley leading the way with three. Bill Wooding and Folsum also added two apiece.

Earning the win on the mound for Greensboro was David Schilling. Schilling was one of four pitchers that relieved starter Ramel Graham.

Greensboro took away the suspense right out of the gate in the second game, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. The Pride scored one in the first, three in the fifth and five in the third to grab a commanding 9-0 advantage.

Michael Cobb went the distance to pick up the victory, limiting the Knights to five hits and one run in the final inning. As a team Greensboro outhit Southern Virginia 9-5. Bill Wooding had a team high three hits to go along with three RBI while John Krecicki added two hits with two runs scored.

The Pride improved to 12-7 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Eureka. The game will be played at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, NC.
