College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 17, Randolph 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chase Clausen (Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) scored a career-high five goals and two assists in Guilford College’s 17-2 lacrosse victory over visiting Randolph College Saturday in both teams’ Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener. The 15-goal victory margin marks the Quakers’ largest in 21 years of ODAC play.

Clausen, a sophomore midfielder, had three tallies by halftime, which helped Guilford (6-2, 1-0 ODAC) to a 6-1 advantage. He scored twice and added two assists during the Quakers’ 9-0 run that started the second half.

Guilford’s Greg Nash (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) added four goals and teammates Henry Farley and Taylor Teodosio both tallied twice. Eight different Quakers dent the twine, including Chris Ashcraft, who contributed a game-high three assists. Guilford took advantage of 27 Randolph turnovers and enjoyed a 46-15 edge in shots. The Quakers also won 15 of 23 face-offs and were successful on 19-of-22 clears.

The Quakers’ Nick Huckins picked up a career- and game-high eight ground balls. Freshman goalie Thomas Deane allowed just one goal and made eight saves in the cage.

Bobby Crosby and Colton Wood scored for the WildCats (2-5, 0-1 ODAC). Kevin McCracken made 17 saves and John Grundy picked up a team-best six ground balls.

Guilford hosts league-rival Washington and Lee University Wednesday (3/21) at 7:00 p.m.
