College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 15, Sweet Briar 11

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lily Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) scored four goals and three assists in Guilford College’s 15-11 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over visiting Sweet Briar College Wednesday.

Colley had two goals and an assist in the first half, which helped the Quakers (5-2, 2-0 ODAC) take a 9-3 halftime lead. Eleanora Keene (Wittman, Md./Gunston Day School) and Summer Frazier (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) also scored twice in the opening period. Guilford outshot the Vixens, 26-10, and forced 17 of Sweet Briar’s 28 turnovers in the first half.

Sweet Briar scored four of the first five goals of the second half and drew to within 10-7 midway through the period. Sam Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township) netted two of her team-high four goals in the spurt. Guilford answered with back-to-back goals by Keene and Frazier to restore a five-goal edge. Olivia Hurt’s (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant School) third and final goal of the game made it a 14-11 contest with 7:36 left in regulation.

Frazier finished with three goals and Sarah Bradburd (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Friends’ Central) scored twice for Guilford. Katie Oliver (Crofton, Md./South River (Anne Arundel C.C.)) picked up a game-high seven ground balls and caused three turnovers. Colley and her sister, Becca, both caused four turnovers and picked up five ground balls. Keene added eight draw controls, two caused turnovers and three ground balls to a solid all-around performance.

Sweet Briar goalie Carolina Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) made 22 saves and had three ground balls, which kept the Vixens in the game. Sarah Winstead (Apex, N.C./Middle Creek) and Kimberly Orchowski (Crofton, Md./Arundel) both contributed a goal and an assist.

Guilford hosts Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in another ODAC game.
