Greensboro College Softball Splits With Nationally Ranked Bridgewater

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – The Pride softball team knocked off #24 nationally ranked Bridgewater in game one, but dropped game two for a series split on Monday. Greensboro scored three in the fourth and two in the seventh to beat the Eagles, 5-2, in game one. Bridgewater bounced back in game two, however, to earn an 8-0 win.

After leaving the bases loaded in the third inning of game one, The Pride broke through in the fourth with three runs. Brittany Teer provided the fireworks with a three-run blast to centerfield.

The Eagles fought back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to narrow the gap to 3-2. Heather Nellis and Reihle Kash added insurance runs in the seventh, coming through with an RBI single apiece to push the lead to 5-2.

Kelsey Sanfilippo handled the rest, shutting down Bridgewater in the final frame to secure to the win. Sanfilippo earned a save in 4.0 innings of relief work. Jackie Nicholson picked up the victory with 3.0 solid innings in the circle.

Greensboro used an eight hit attack on offense, with Hayley Hicks posting a game high three hits.

Bridgewater took a 2-0 lead into the fourth of game two and opened the game up with four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles closed out the game in the sixth with two more runs.

Nicholson, Kash, Megan Cater, and Holly Jones each tallied a hit in the loss. Hannah Pennell took the defeat, tossing 3.2 innings before handing the ball over to Sanfilippo to finish the game out.

The Pride are now 13-9 on the season. Greensboro will return home for the first time since March 4 to take on Methodist on Wednesday. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 6 p.m. at UNC-Greensboro.
